Vanderlande joins the Science Based Targets initiative with a pledge of action

Vanderlande has made a significant commitment to sustainability by signing the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) commitment letter on 23 November 2023. This announcement underscores the company’s unwavering dedication to reducing its carbon footprint and aligning its business practices with the latest climate science.

The SBTi is a global initiative that helps businesses set ambitious emissions reduction targets based on the most up-to-date research and scientific thinking. It aims to encourage companies worldwide to support the efforts to cut emissions in half by 2030 and reach net-zero by 2050. In addition, the SBTi defines best practices in science-based target setting and collaborates with organisations like CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

Vanderlande’s decision to sign the letter demonstrates its commitment to environmental responsibility and its desire to remain at the forefront of sustainable business practices. By joining the initiative, the company is actively participating in efforts to reduce the impact of climate change globally, as well as ensuring its operations are in step with the scientific consensus.

“Joining SBTi is not just a symbolic act – it’s a defining moment for Vanderlande’s commitment to sustainability,” says the company’s CEO, Remo Brunschwiler. “We recognise the urgent need for action to combat climate change and understand the requirement to reduce our own environmental impact.”

“Across our company, and in our work with customers and suppliers, we are finding ways to cut emissions,” adds Andrew Manship, who will take over from Mr Brunschwiler as CEO from 1 January 2024. “Signing up to SBTi reflects our dedication to achieving a net-zero carbon footprint, which we aim to do as a company by 2040.”

Sustainability – it’s in our DNA

Vanderlande’s goal is to achieve a net-zero carbon footprint by 2040 – a decade ahead of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. The company joins more than 5,000 organisations from across the world that have made a commitment to the SBTi.
